Tom Berg on Hawaii Legislature Ag Chairs

Hawaii Political Info exclusive

Senator Clarence Nishihara and Representative Clift Tsuji, chairs of the Hawaii senate and house agriculture committees respectively, are the guardians in the Hawaii legislature of the interests of GMO companies such as Monsanto, Syngenta and Dole, explains Tom Berg, Honolulu city councilman.

Clarence K. Nishihara (D), Senate District 17 (Pearl City; Pacific Palisades, Manana; portions of Waipio, & Waipahu) and Clift Tsuji (D), House District 2 (Hilo, Waiakea & Keaukaha), are chairmen of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and the House Committee on Agriculture. The two have a stranglehold on legislation requiring labeling of GMO (genetically modified organism, aka genetically engineered [GE]) food. Both men won their races in the primary with no Republican opposition.

Tom Berg, campaigning for re-election to the Honolulu City Council's District 1 (Ewa, Ewa Beach, Honouliuli, West Loch, Kapolei, Kalaeloa [Barber's Point], Honokai Hale and Nanakai Gardens, Ko'Olina, Nanakuli, Wai'anae, Makaha, Keaau, and Makua), talks about Nishihara and Tsuji and the essential role they play in keeping people from knowing that their food's DNA has been altered. The City Council is a nonpartisan office.
