Norman Dodd on Foundations' Hidden Agenda

Uploaded on Jun 11, 2008

YouTube introduction: Norman Dodd was interviewed in 1982 by G. Edward Griffin regarding the time he spent as the head researcher for the Reece Committee.

This is a truly eye opening look into what the tax exempt foundations are doing in the United States - their attempt to merge the Soviet System of Government with the USA.

The Israel Lobby Must Be Held to Account

PaulCraigRoberts.org

by Paul Craig Roberts

April 1, 2016

It was ten years ago that the London Review of Books published an article on the Israel Lobby by John J. Mearsheimer and Stephen M. Walt, distinguished scholars at two of America’s top universities. The following year the publisher, Farrar, Straus and Giroux found the courage to publish The Israel Lobby, a book with 357 overwhelmingly 5 star amazon.com reviews.

The Israel Lobby is an understated critique of the enomous influence that the tiny state of Israel, which consists of land stolen by fire and sword from the helpless Palestinians, exercises over United States foreign policy. The crazed Israel Lobby went berserk. Mearsheimer and Walt were demonized as anti-semitics who wanted to bring back Hitler.

Also in 2006 former President Jimmy Carter’s book, Peace Not Apartheid, was published by Simon & Schuster and became a New York Times bestseller with 846 overwhelmingly 5 star amazon.com reviews. Carter, who as US president did his best to bring Israel and Palestine to a settlement, truthrully explained that Israel was the barrier to a settlement. The Israel Lobby demonized Carter as an anti-semite, and the Jews on the board of the Carter Center resigned.

No member of the Israel Lobby has the stature and distinction of Mearsheimer, Walt, and President Carter. The Lobby’s operatives are people of no significance who make a living slandering, libeling, and trying to destroy the reputation of everyone who makes the slightest criticism of Israeli government policies.

This tells us that the Israel Lobby knows that Israel’s behavior is so atrocious that it cannot stand the slightest examination. We can criticize Moscow without being labeled “anti-Russian,” and we can criticize Washington without being labeled “anti-American,” but we cannot criticize Israel without being labeled an “anti-semite” and accused of wanting to restart the holocaust.

Nevertheless, just as the Gestapo was untruthful but effective, the Israel Lobby is untruthful but effective. The Lobby has established its hegemony over the US publisher, McGraw-Hill. The cowardly publisher was forced to burn its own books and to destroy all copies of a widely used textbook, Global Politics: Engaging a Complex World. The book had to be destroyed, because it contained accurate maps showing the transformation of Palestine from a land inhabited by Palestinians into a land occupied by Zionists, sprinkled with a few Palestinian ghettos.

These maps are available all over the Internet, and any remaining professors sufficiently brave to call them to the attention of students can refer students to the Internet. Here is the URL to an article by Lawrence Davidson about McGraw-Hill’s submission to censorship that contains the maps:
http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article44487.htm

The behavior of the Israel Lobby indicates that far stronger criticism of the Lobby is warranted than supplied by Mearsheimer, Walt, and President Carter. In 2007 the Lobby was able to reach into a Catholic University, DePaul, and overturn the decision of the tenure committee to award tenure to Norman Finkelstein, a distinguished Jewish scholar of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, who was declared by the Lobby to be an enemy of Israel. The craven cowardice of the DePaul University president, administration, and trustees indicates the power that the Lobby is so proud to have but consistently denies having.

In 2015 the Israel Lobby was able to reach into the University of Illinois and have rescinded the tenured appointment extended to Steven Salaita and accepted by him. Salaita resigned his tenure at Virginia Tech and sold his home, only to have his appointment rescinded by University of Illinois chancellor Phyllis M. Wise and the university trustees, who apparently were offered large monetary donations to the university in return for reneging on the university’s contract with Salaita. Salaita had tweeted some criticism of the Israeli government’s behavior, and this transformed the scholar into an anti-semite.

Of all the countries in the world, only Israel cannot be criticized, not even by experts on the basis of established facts. This kind of power is illegitimate and unconscionable. The fact that American universities and publishers submit to it indicates the death of free speech and academic inquiry in the United States.

The Lobby’s power is a danger to Israel. The Lobby’s reliance and that of the Zionist government on force majeure alienates the rest of the world, but creates a hubristic sense of invulnerability in Israel itself. The pride that Israeli politicians express in their ability to control US foreign policy and the pride that the Lobby enjoys in its influence over US academic appointments, journalism appointments, and decisions of textbook publishers leads to an arrogance that eventually over reaches. In the meantime Israel is busy at work eliminating friends whose constructive criticisms are intended to save Israel from a future of woe and misery. The result for Israel will be isolation.

NYU Squeezes Billions from Its Students

News from Underground

May 22, 2015

“The Art of the Gouge”: Shocking New Report by NYU Faculty Details How NYU Bilks Millions from Its Students to Finance Real Estate and Pay for Top Executives; Renew Call for Full Financial Transparency

Members of New York University’s faculty have issued a blistering 14,000 word report on how NYU has been gouging its own students (and their families) to raise billions for gratuitous real estate transactions and lavish compensation packages for NYU’s own top executives.

Concerned about their students’ ever worsening financial plight and wild spending by NYU’s Board of Trustees, the professors, many of them members of NYU Faculty Against the Sexton Plan (NYUFASP), spent this past academic year researching NYU’s financial practices. Interviewing scores of students, both undergraduate and graduate, and studying the fine print in NYU’s own documents, the professors “followed the money” to reveal:

Chuck Baldwin: My Latest Suggested Reading List

By Chuck Baldwin

March 31, 2016

I am often asked to recommend reading material. I have published my suggested reading lists before, but it’s been several years. Therefore, today’s column will be devoted to this subject.

First, here are a couple of maxims about reading in general. “Leaders are readers.” And, “A man is the sum total of the people he associates with and the books he reads.”

Accordingly, here are a few of the books that I have recently read, that I am currently reading, or that are on my short list of books soon to read (in no particular order).

Life Of Washington
A rare, faith-filled, historic biography of America’s first President, George Washington.
Originally published in 1842.
By Anna C. Reed

George Washington, Frontiersman
By Zane Grey

A History Of The American People
By Paul Johnson

A History Of Christianity In The United States And Canada
By Mark A. Noll

By The Hand Of Providence: How Faith Shaped The American Revolution
By Rod Gragg

The Essential Thomas Jefferson
Edited by John Gabriel Hunt

A Commitment To Valor
A Unique Portrait Of Robert E. Lee In His Own Words
Compiled and Edited by Rod Gragg

Call Of Duty
The Sterling Nobility Of Robert E. Lee
By J. Steven Wilkins

Stonewall Jackson
The Man, The Soldier, The Legend
By James I. Robertson, Jr.

A View Of The Constitution
By William Rawle (1825)
Edited and Annotated by Walter D. Kennedy and James R. Kennedy
Secession As Taught At West Point

The Real Lincoln
A New Look At Abraham Lincoln, His Agenda, And An Unnecessary War
By Thomas J. DiLorenzo
This book is absolutely MUST-READING. It carefully and truthfully unmasks America’s worst president.

War Is A Racket
By Brigadier General Smedley D. Butler
Every American should read this classic. I try to stay reminded of General Butler’s wisdom by reading his book every year or two.

Boston’s Gun Bible
By Boston T. Party
A terrific manual on the Second Amendment, shooting, guns, self-defense, etc. Every American who claims to love liberty should read the chapter entitled “How To Become A Rifleman.” That chapter alone is worth the price of the book.

Lex, Rex, Or The Law And The Prince
By Samuel Rutherford (1600 - 1661)
A CLASSIC! A MUST-READ!

Second Treatise Of Government
By John Locke (1632 - 1704)
John Locke was The Father of America’s Founding Fathers. His “Second Treatise Of Government” is MUST-READING. It just might be the most succinct explanation of Natural Law of all.

You can order Locke’s masterpiece on my web store here:

Second Treatise Of Government, By John Locke

The Law
By Frederic Bastiat (1801 - 1850)
This is another classic that needs to be read every year.

Vindiciae, Contra Tyrannos: Or Concerning The Legitimate Power Of A Prince Over The People, And Of The People Over A Prince
Edited by George Garnett
This is another MUST-READ classic for all freedom lovers.

They Preached Liberty
Edited by Franklin P. Cole
“An anthology of timely quotations from New England ministers of the American Revolution on the subject of liberty: its source, nature, obligations, types, and blessings.”

I wish every preacher in America would read this book and also these next two:

Political Sermons Of The American Founding Era, 1730-1805
Edited by Ellis Sandoz
Read these sermons from America’s Colonial pulpits, and you will realize the kind of preaching you are NOT hearing but should be.

The Battle of Lexington: A Sermon And Eyewitness Narrative
By Jonas Clark, Pastor, Church of Lexington
Originally Titled: The Fate of Blood-Thirsty Oppressors and God’s Tender Care of His Distressed People

Here is the eyewitness account of the pastor of the Minutemen as they fired the “shot heard ’round the world” on Lexington Green on the first anniversary of the Battle of Lexington, April 19, 1776. What most history books omit is the fact that the Minutemen were comprised mostly of the male congregants of Pastor Clark’s Church of Lexington. READ THIS BOOK!

Plus, on Sunday, April 19 of last year, I publicly delivered Jonas Clark’s famous sermon word-for-word to my congregation at Liberty Fellowship in Kalispell, Montana. That presentation is available on DVD. As far as I know, it is the only recording of its kind in existence. Find it here:

Chuck Baldwin Delivers Jonas Clark's Famous Message On DVD

Hitler’s Cross
The revealing story of how the Cross of Christ was used as a symbol of the Nazi agenda.
By Erwin W. Lutzer
As I have said many times, this is a book that everyone needs to read. I have personally recommended this book to hundreds of people. GET THIS BOOK!

The Pilgrim’s Progress
By John Bunyan (1628 - 1688)
This is the immortal classic that has sold more copies worldwide than any other book, with the exception of the Holy Bible. A timeless treasure that everyone should read.

Death By Government
By R. J. Rummel
Read this, and you will discover that, compared to the mass murders committed by governments throughout history, John Dillinger, Al Capone, and Bonnie and Clyde were rank amateurs.

A Foreign Policy Of Freedom
“Peace, Commerce, And Honest Friendship”
By former congressman Ron Paul
A great book by America’s greatest congressman.

The Black Book Of Communism
By Stephane Courtois, Nicolas Werth, Jean-Louis Panne, Andrzej Paczkowski, Karel Bartosek, and Jean-Louis Margolin
This is the most definitive and comprehensive book I have ever found on the true history of communism all over the world.

A Christian Manifesto
By Francis A. Schaeffer
A CLASSIC!

The Normal Christian Life
By Watchman Nee

The Cost Of Discipleship
By Dietrich Bonhoeffer
Bonhoeffer’s BEST! A CLASSIC!

The Genesis Flood
By John C. Whitcomb and Henry M. Morris
Maybe the best defense of creationism in print.

THE HOLY BIBLE
Written by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit of God

Listen to these testimonials about the Bible:

“The Bible is one of the greatest blessings bestowed by God on the children of men. It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth without any mixture for its matter. It is all pure, all sincere; nothing too much; nothing wanting.” (John Locke)

“It is impossible to mentally or socially enslave a Bible-reading people.” (Horace Greeley)

“I have known 95 of the world’s great men in my time, and of these, 87 were followers of the Bible.” (William Gladstone)

“I have always said and always will say that the studious perusal of the Sacred Volume will make better citizens, better fathers, better husbands…the Bible makes the best people in the world.” (Thomas Jefferson)

“The Bible is the rock on which our republic rests.” (Andrew Jackson)

And, if I may be so bold: I strongly recommend that people read the two books co-authored by my constitutional attorney son, Tim Baldwin, and me.

Romans 13: The True Meaning Of Submission

This is a blockbuster book that shows from both testaments of the Bible that nowhere does God give civil government (or any other government, for that matter) the right to exercise tyrannical power and authority over men; and nowhere does God command His people to give unlimited submission to tyrannical government. This is must-reading for every Christian and non-Christian alike.

To Keep or Not To Keep: Why Christians Should Not Give Up Their Guns

This is another book that I believe should be read by every Christian--including every pastor. Once again, my son and I examine both testaments of the Bible and show that God REQUIRES that His people maintain a diligent armed defense of themselves, their loved ones, their community, and their country. We show from Scripture that the right to keep and bear arms is not only a “right” (as recognized in the Bill of Rights--as important as that is) but also a divine DUTY.

There’s my list. I’m sure many of you have your own lists that are just as good. Let’s all read a good book this year…or two or three.

PaulCraigRoberts.org

March 30, 2016

by Paul Craig Roberts

The Case of Ivan Teleguz

Americans are helpless against false prosecutions because so many Americans are gullible and cannot believe that prosecutors and police would be corrupt. They do not give thought to the character of prosecutors. Have you ever asked yourself what type of persons become prosecutors? Most Americans think a prosecutor is a person dedicated to serving justice and punishing criminals for their crimes. There are such people, but there are also ambitious prosecutors who pursue high conviction rates and high profile cases as a path to higher office. For these prosecutors, justice is a subsidiary concern. The worst kind of prosecutors are those who simply enjoy ruining people, whether innocent or guilty.

Prosecutors formerly were restrained by enculturation and a moral environment. Today the only restraint is their own character.

Miscarriages of justice have always occurred, but as Lawrence Stratton and I show in our book, The Tyranny of Good Intentions, miscarriages of justice are becoming the norm, not the exception. The Boston Marathon Bombing case is an example of a corrupt prosecution. See: http://www.paulcraigroberts.org/2016/03/29/update-on-the-boston-marathon...

Once a miscarriage of justice occurs, it is almost impossible to reverse it. Public authorities do not readily admit to mistakes or corrupt motives. For example, Ivan Teleguz is set to be executed in a few days despite the fact that two of the three witnesses against him have publicly stated that they lied for prosecutors at Teleguz’s trial as their part of deals prosecutors made with them. In other words, the false evidence against Ivan Telguz was created by the prosecutors for the purpose of executing him.

There is a petition sponsored by change.org to Virginia governor Terry McAuliffe that is trying to stop the execution of a wrongly convicted person who appears to be innocent. Here is the petition:

Petitioning Terry McAuliffe
Please Stop the Imminent Execution of Ivan Teleguz, an Innocent Man

The Commonwealth of Virginia plans to execute an innocent man, Ivan Teleguz. We need to make sure Governor McAuliffe knows that there is too much evidence of Ivan’s innocence to allow this execution to go ahead. Please join the call for the Governor to intervene.

The government’s case against Ivan was based on false evidence. Three men said that Ivan hired Stephanie’s killer. But two of those men have since admitted that they lied in court – and sworn under oath that Ivan was not involved. The third, Michael Hetrick, confessed to killing Stephanie. He was offered a deal that spared his own life in return for saying that Ivan hired him to commit the murder.

The prosecutor coerced the witnesses. The witnesses have sworn under oath that they gave false testimony at trial because of threats from the prosecutor and promises she made to improve their sentences.

The prosecution tried to influence the jury by saying Ivan was involved in a made-up murder. At trial, the prosecutor argued that Ivan should be sentenced to death because he was involved in another murder in Pennsylvania, and was highly dangerous. It was later revealed that the testimony about the murder and the prosecutor’s argument were completely made up—the murder never even happened.

There is evidence that calls into question every part of the Commonwealth’s case against Ivan. There is too much doubt for Governor McAuliffe to allow this execution to go ahead. Please help make sure he knows that The Commonwealth is about to execute an innocent man.

Please help save an innocent man. Join the call for Governor McAuliffe to intervene.

Robert DeNiro Caves to Pressure, Cancels Screening of Documentary about Vaccinations

Actor Robert De Niro was set to introduce and screen Vaxxed, a documentary about vaccines and their effect on human health at the Tribeca Film Festival. He is a co-founder of TFF.

When pressure was brought to bear to pull it, he continued to say that the film would be screened at the festival, pointing out that he had an autistic child and wanted to open the topic up for discussion.

Here's the Vaxxed trailer:

Next is an interview with ABC News about Vaxxed and the Tribeca Festival that received a mere five seconds of airtime. Luckily someone on Vaxxed producer Del Bigtree's team was there to film it, so we are able to see it in full despite ABC News' decision.

Two hours after the Bigtree interview De Niro announced that the film was being cut from the Tribeca Festival lineup.

Mike Adams, Natural News editor, who has been following the story closely, gives us the latest on it:

BREAKING: Pressure to censor VAXXED documentary at Tribeca Film Festival came from the Nazi-linked Sloan Foundation, headed by CFR member Paul Joskow

by Mike Adams

March 28, 2016

As the story on the censorship of the VAXXED documentary continues to unfold, we are learning that Robert De Niro was pressured by none other than the Sloan Foundation in New York to blacklist the independent documentary.

The Sloan Foundation is so named from Alfred P. Sloan, a Nazi collaborator and eugenics depopulation promoter. It's no coincidence that his own beliefs on using medical interventions to reduce race-targeted populations coincides perfectly with the stated depopulation goals of Bill Gates (whose financial web of influence is woven across the entire vaccine propaganda landscape).

What led me to connect the dots on this is a short piece from Celia Farber of The Truth Barrier, who originally noticed the Sloan Foundation link.

Parents Turn Connecticut Easter Egg Hunt into Greedy Free-for-All

ORANGE, CT (WFSB) — Parents were upset when an Easter egg hunt turned into a shoving match on Saturday morning.

For the third year in a row, the Easter egg hunt was held at the Pez Visitor Center in Orange.

According to Pez, event organizers placed more than 9,000 eggs on three different fields. The goal was to have staggered starts for each age group.

"When it came time at like 10:30 a.m., the parents just bum-rushed that area," West Haven resident Nicole Welch, who attended the event with her 4-year-old son, said.

14 Teaching Principles of Elite, Private Schools

John Taylor Gatto, widely known for his excellence in teaching, tells us what elite, private boarding schools have that public schools for the most part don't have.

1) Theory of human nature. No one should graduate without a theory of human nature. What makes people tick? What buttons do you press to get what you want from people? This knowledge comes from history, philosophy, theology, literature and law. These five “mighty agencies” have a wealth of information of what human beings are like now, have been like, and probably always will be like.

2) Skill in the active literacies. Every graduate should have strong experience with active literacies, which are writing and public speaking. It’s useless to convince anyone else of your point of view unless you can write well and speak well. Extremely easy to teach. Offer regular opportunities to speak to a group of strangers, from one to two to an auditorium full. The fact that they’re people that you’re not comfortable with is essential.

To write well, just write constantly and regularly, preferably every day.

3) Insight into the major institutional forms, such as courts, corporations, military and education, including details of the ideas which drive them. The only way to arrive at the approximation of truth is through argument. The more skillful the argument on all sides the better the proximity to truth. U.S. was world’s first laboratory of dissent on the part of everybody.

4) Repeated exercises in the forms of good manners and politeness. Politeness and civility are the foundation of all future relationships, all future alliances and access to places that you might want to go.

All public schools that Gatto has been to, and he’s been to hundreds, have been laboratories of rudeness, cruelty, sloppiness and coarseness.

5) Independent work. In public schools the teacher fills up 80-90 percent of the time. In private schools that ratio ideally is reversed.

6) Energetic physical sports are the only way to confer grace on the human presence. That grace transfers to power and money later on. [Really!? How?!] They teach you practice in handling pain and dealing with emergencies.

7) A complete theory of access to any workplace or any person. The child is better off with the challenge of getting a private meeting with the mayor of LA than reading a civics textbook. Let him work for a year on constructing access to the mayor, CEOs, or other people that he or she wants or needs to communicate with directly.

8) Responsibility. Includes washing dishes. In elite private boarding schools it includes such things as taking care of a horse, taking on some important community service, to go for leadership in clubs (much easier than you think because if the club is actually doing anything it’s a lot of hard work to be the leader and very few people want that). Always to grab for responsibility when it’s offered and always to deliver more than is asked for.

9) Arrival at a personal code of standards in behavior, production and morality. These must be checked regularly.

10) To have a familiarity with, and to be at ease with, the master creations in music, painting, dance, sculpture, design, architecture, literature and drama. To be at ease with the arts because apart from religion, they are the only way to transcend the animal materiality [sic] of our lives.

11) The power of accurate observation and recording. For example, sharpen the perception by being able to draw accurately. It used to be an axiom among the British upper class that if you couldn’t draw something accurately from memory, then you didn’t see what was there. Drawing wasn’t a way to kill time, but a way to sharpen the perception.

12) The ability to deal with challenges of all sorts. (Gatto’s favorite) Don't give up when [figuratively] knocked down. Get back up, keep going in spite of what may be multiple setbacks.

13) A habit of caution in reasoning to conclusions. Listening to a few hours of government propaganda about how Syria's president Bashar al-Assad is another Hitler as a reason to send in U.S. troops and start a war is not an intelligent way to come to a conclusion, even though that's what 80-90 percent of Americans do.

14) The constant development and testing of judgment: you make judgments, you discriminate value, and then you follow up and keep an eye on your predictions to see how far skewed from what actually occurs, or, on the other hand, how consistent with what transpires, things are.

Roger Stone: How Trump Will Destroy Hillary Clinton

Roger Stone says Hillary Clinton (D) will be destroyed by Donald Trump (R) when and if the two face off against each other as their respective party's nominee.

Stone, who was let go from or voluntarily left his position with Trump back in August, depending on which source you read, has an uncommon understanding of connections and a reputation for dirty politics. He grew up in a Hungarian-Italian Catholic family.

Jews Pressure Publisher into Withdrawing Textbooks

Contained maps showing massive Jewish takeover of Palestinian lands since 1947 establishment of Israel

Information Clearing House

by Lawrence Davidson

March 21, 2016

What is the difference between a textbook publisher giving into pressure from Christian fundamentalists seeking to censor the teaching of evolution, and a publisher giving in to Zionists seeking to censor awareness of the ethnic cleansing of Palestine? Neither phenomenon is a matter of opinion or perspective. One act of censorship denies facts established by scientific research. The other denies the documented violation of international law (for instance, the Fourth Geneva Convention) and multiple UN resolutions. So the answer to the question just asked is – there is no difference.

In early March 2016 executives at McGraw-Hill took the extreme step of withdrawing from the market a published text, Global Politics: Engaging a Complex World, and then proceeded to destroy all the remaining books held in inventory. (Did they burn them?) Global Politics, which had been on the market since 2012, was a text designed by its authors to “offer students a number of lenses through which to view the world around them.” Why did McGraw-Hill do this?

Apparently the book was obliterated (this seems to be an accurate description of the publisher’s actions) because, like a biology text that describes the established facts of evolution, Global Politics offered a “lens to view the world” that was judged blasphemous by a powerful, influential and ideologically driven element of the community. Of course, that is not how McGraw-Hill rationalized its action. Instead, the publisher claimed that a serious inaccuracy in the text was belatedly discovered. This took the form of a series of four maps that show “Palestinian loss of land from 1946 to 2000.” The maps are the first set which can be seen at the following link: http://www.thetower.org/3027ez-mcgraw-hill-publishes-college-textbook-wi...

Merrick Garland Nominated as 5th Jew to U.S. Supreme Court

Hawaii Political Info introduction: Obama Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland would be the fifth or fourth Jew on the nine-member U.S. Supreme Court if approved by the U.S. Senate. The other Jewish Justices are Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Stephen G. Breyer, Elena Kagan and possibly Sonia Sotomayor. Sotomayor is thought to be of Jewish ancestry, but there appears to be no publicly available hard evidence. She was raised Catholic, according to news reports. The remaining Justices are Catholic.

Sotomayor is considered part of the Jewish (usually called "liberal") block in the Court, along with Ginsburg, Breyer and Kagan. They voted together in upholding Obamacare and same-sex marriage, where the vote in both cases was a narrow 5-4 in favor.

The Jerusalem Post

New Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland credited his Jewish grandparents, who he said fled to the US from anti-Semitism in Russia, for putting him in position to be nominated.

“My family deserves much of the credit for the path that led me here. My grandparents left the Pale of Settlement at the border of western Russia and Eastern Europe in the early 1900s, fleeing anti-Semitism and hoping to make a better life for their children in America,” he said, choking up Wednesday morning in the White House Rose Garden as he accepted President Barack Obama’s nomination.

Born to a Jewish mother and a Protestant father, Garland was raised as a Jew.

Son's Accusations Led to His Mother's Execution during Chinese Cultural Revolution

Zhang Hongbing in his study

Zhang Hongbing haunted by his actions as a teenager

by Xie Wenting, Global Times (owned by the mainland China communist party)

"He stomped on her leg, and my mother immediately fell to her knees. They then used hemp ropes to tie her arms behind her back. It was like they were binding zongzi [rice dumplings]," recalled Zhang Hongbing, 63, a Beijing-based lawyer.

This scene took place in February 13, 1970. When other families were still celebrating the Spring Festival, two army officials in Guzhen, East China's Anhui Province, rushed to Zhang's home to arrest his mother, Fang Zhongmou.

The woman had been denounced by her son and husband for having criticized Chairman Mao Zedong. Less than two months later, Fang was executed.

Zhang, then a 16-year-old, believed at the time that he was doing the right thing. But decades later, his deeds have returned to haunt him. "I want to atone for my crimes," said Zhang.

Zhang's story is just one of the countless tragedies that took place during the Cultural Revolution (1966-76), a decade of political chaos.

"I want to get people to think about how it was possible that a husband denounced his wife and a son sent his mother to her death in the Chinese mainland, and what we can do to prevent such tragedies from happening in the future," Zhang told the Global Times.

Red to the core

In his younger years, Zhang used to view himself as being "red to the core." His mother was an administrator at a local hospital in Guzhen and his father was an official in the county's health department.

He later learned that his grandfather, Fang's father, had been identified as a "landlord" and "spy," an allegation he said was not backed by any evidence.

At the outset of the Cultural Revolution in 1966, Zhang joined the Red Guards together with his elder sister.

At the age of 13, he changed his given name from Tiefu to Hongbing, meaning red soldier, a decision that was backed by his parents.

However, after his sister went to Beijing at the end of 1966 to attend Chairman Mao's reception, she died of meningitis shortly after returning home. After his sister's death, his mother's mental condition took a turn for the worse.

As the Cultural Revolution continued, Zhang's father was subjected to criticism and struggle sessions for almost two years for following a "bourgeois reactionary line." During this period, Zhang wrote a poster in large characters accusing his father of buying clothes and face cream for his daughter.

Once his father was released, his mother underwent criticism sessions. The brutality she endured during those sessions, combined with her daughter's death, destroyed the woman and led to her outburst one day.

Fang said Mao was a "traitor" and praised former Chinese President Liu Shaoqi, who was deposed and denounced by Mao as a "revisionist" and "capitalist roader" during the Cultural Revolution.

This led Zhang to get into an argument with his mother. His father later went out to denounce Fang. Worrying that his father had not done so, Zhang wrote a short letter of accusation and sent it out on his own initiative.

When the army officials came to Zhang's house after receiving the letter, the portraits of Mao Zedong that had been hanging on the wall and Mao's writings had all been burnt by Fang, leaving a pile of ashes on the ground.

After Fang was taken away, his father took out a notebook, asking everyone to write down materials for the prosecution.

Zhang wrote 21 pages and his father wrote 10. They ended by writing the same suggestion: Fang Zhongmou should be shot.

According to the county history and court documents, Fang was then found guilty of supporting Liu Shaoqi and attacking Mao Zedong.

On April 11, 1970, Zhang went to see Fang at a mass tribunal but did not follow her to the firing squad.

Making amends

After the fall of the Gang of Four in 1976, who had directed the purge of thousands of Communist Party of China officials and intellectuals during the Cultural Revolution, Zhang felt his political faith collapse. He even considered drowning himself in a river at the end of 1976.

In 1978, Fang Zhongmou's brother went to Zhang's family, asking to appeal his sister's case, but the idea was met with opposition by Zhang's family.

The family's attitude changed in 1979 after many similar tragic cases were revised.

"It was I who caused my mother's death. I felt full of regret, grief and shame… I needed to take action to clear my mother's name. As for my guilt, I will never clear it in my whole lifetime," Zhang wrote in his diary.

Since then, Zhang has tried legal means to expiate his guilt. Now he is seeking a revision of the county's historical records related to his mother's death, and for his mother's tomb to be identified as an immovable cultural relic.

The two cases are now pending at Bengbu Intermediate People's Court in Bengbu, Anhui.

Speaking out

Zhang said the essence of his mother's case is that she was "convicted for her words." The right to free speech that the Constitution gives to people was taken away at that time, he says.

Zhang decided to speak out about his guilt to the public in 2013. "I spoke about it to remind people and to prevent them from forgetting," Zhang said.

Zhang's decision to speak out drew a backlash from some of his closest relatives and his wife, who was against him speaking about these past affairs. Zhang's younger brother is supportive of his efforts to identify their mother's tomb as an immovable relic, but does not want him to talk about it in the media, worrying it could have a negative influence on his children.

Zhang's life did not change much after his open confession. He spent much of his spare time reading comments left by netizens on his actions. He communicated with those who supported and encouraged him, but did not reply to those with neutral or negative opinions.

There were also some commenters who told him to kill himself. These people, according to Zhang, are "inhumane beasts" who are just like he was in the Cultural Revolution.

Fang's brother Meikai told the China News Weekly that "They have forgiven the family. But they were still unable to be calm when reflecting on the past."

Zhang said that he now is writing a "treacherous son's book of confession," dedicated to his mother.

54 Private Jets at Meeting to Stop Trump

Huffington Post reporter Ryan Grim told CNN’s Brooke Baldwin on Tuesday that “something like 54 private jets” had arrived at an elite meeting of tech CEOs, GOP party insiders and big donors set on stopping Donald Trump before he wins the Republican nomination.

The meeting was the annual World Forum, an off-the-record conference hosted by the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), a leading Washington, D.C.-based conservative think tank. AEI has hosted the “secretive” event since 1982, but this year had a unique focus. Republican pundit Bill Kristol and former George W. Bush strategist Karl Rove were there, among others, including leaders of both the House and Senate.

Grim broke the story:

Attorney General Loretta Lynch Not a Believer in First Amendment Rights

Sunday March 13, 2016

During her appearance before the Senate Judiciary Committee last week, Attorney General Loretta Lynch admitted that she asked the FBI to examine whether the federal government should take legal action against so-called climate change deniers. Attorney General Lynch is not responding to any criminal acts committed by climate change skeptics. Instead, she is responding to requests from those frustrated that dissenters from the alleged climate change consensuses have successfully blocked attempts to create new government programs to fight climate change.

These climate change censors claim that the argument over climate change is settled and the deniers’ success in blocking congressional action is harming the public. Therefore, the government must disregard the First Amendment and silence anyone who dares question the reigning climate change dogma. This argument ignores the many reputable scientists who have questioned the magnitude, effects, and role of human action in causing climate change.

If successful, the climate change censors could set a precedent that could silence numerous other views. For example, many people believe the argument over whether we should audit, and then end, the Federal Reserve is settled. Therefore, the deniers of Austrian economics are harming the public by making it more difficult for Congress to restore a free-market monetary policy. So why shouldn’t the government silence Paul Krugman?

The climate change censorship movement is part of a larger effort to silence political speech. Other recent examples include the IRS’s harassment of tea party groups as well as that agency’s (fortunately thwarted) attempt to impose new rules on advocacy organizations that would have limited their ability to criticize a politician’s record in the months before an election.

The IRS and many state legislators and officials are also trying to force public policy groups to hand over the names of their donors. This type of disclosure can make individuals fearful that, if they support a pro-liberty group, they will face retaliation from the government.

Efforts to silence government critics may have increased in recent years; however, the sad fact is the US Government has a long and shameful history of censoring speech. It is not surprising that war and national security have served as convenient excuses to limit political speech. So-called liberal presidents Woodrow Wilson and Franklin Roosevelt both supported wartime crackdowns on free speech.

Today, many neoconservatives are using the war on terror to justify crackdowns on free speech, increased surveillance of unpopular religious groups like Muslims, and increased government control of social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter. Some critics of US foreign policy have even been forbidden to enter the country.

Many opponents of government restrictions on the First Amendment and other rights of Muslims support government actions targeting so-called “right-wing extremists.” These fair-weather civil liberties defenders are the mirror image of conservatives who support restricting the free speech rights of Muslims in the name of national security, yet clam to oppose authoritarian government. Defending speech we do not agree with is necessary to effectively protect the speech we support.

A government that believes it can run our lives, run the economy, and run the world will inevitably come to believe it can, and should, have the power to silence its critics. Eliminating the welfare-warfare state is the key to protecting our free speech, and other liberties, from an authoritarian government.

The Pitfalls of Hawaii's Renewable Energy Plan

James Taylor, Senior Fellow for Environment & Energy Policy at the Heartland Institute, dismantles the argument that renewable energy is more environmentally sustainable than fossil fuels and shines some much needed light on the ramifications that Hawaii's 100 percent mandate would have on Hawaii's business climate and its taxpayers.

Unlike renewable energy "experts" whose main motivation for their rosy pictures of renewable energy programs is lining their pockets with taxpayer money, Taylor gives us the facts in this Grassroot Institute of Hawaii talk on February 26, 2016.

Congress Is Giving Up Its Constitutionally Mandated Duty on War

While the Washington snowstorm dominated news coverage this week, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell was operating behind the scenes to rush through the Senate what may be the most massive transfer of power from the Legislative to the Executive branch in our history. The senior Senator from Kentucky is scheming, along with Sen. Lindsey Graham, to bypass normal Senate procedure to fast-track legislation to grant the president the authority to wage unlimited war for as long as he or his successors may wish.

The legislation makes the unconstitutional Iraq War authorization of 2002 look like a walk in the park. It will allow this president and future presidents to wage war against ISIS without restrictions on time, geographic scope, or the use of ground troops. It is a completely open-ended authorization for the president to use the military as he wishes for as long as he (or she) wishes. Even President Obama has expressed concern over how willing Congress is to hand him unlimited power to wage war.

President Obama has already far surpassed even his predecessor, George W. Bush, in taking the country to war without even the fig leaf of an authorization. In 2011 the president invaded Libya, overthrew its government, and oversaw the assassination of its leader, without even bothering to ask for Congressional approval. Instead of impeachment, which he deserved for the disastrous Libya invasion, Congress said nothing. House Republicans only managed to bring the subject up when they thought they might gain political points exploiting the killing of US Ambassador Chris Stevens in Benghazi.

It is becoming more clear that Washington plans to expand its war in the Middle East. Last week the media reported that the US military had taken over an air base in eastern Syria, and Defense Secretary Ashton Carter said that the US would send in the 101st Airborne Division to retake Mosul in Iraq and to attack ISIS headquarters in Raqqa, Syria. Then on Saturday, Vice President Joe Biden said that if the upcoming peace talks in Geneva are not successful, the US is prepared for a massive military intervention in Syria. Such an action would likely place the US military face to face with the Russian military, whose assistance was requested by the Syrian government. In contrast, we must remember that the US military is operating in Syria in violation of international law.

The prospects of such an escalation are not all that far-fetched. At the insistence of Saudi Arabia and with US backing, the representatives of the Syrian opposition at the Geneva peace talks will include members of the Army of Islam, which has fought with al-Qaeda in Syria. Does anyone expect these kinds of people to compromise? Isn’t al-Qaeda supposed to be our enemy?

The purpose of the Legislative branch of our government is to restrict the Executive branch’s power. The Founders understood that an all-powerful king who could wage war at will was the greatest threat to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That is why they created a people’s branch, the Congress, to prevent the emergence of an all-powerful autocrat to drag the country to endless war. Sadly, Congress is surrendering its power to declare war.

Let’s be clear: If Senate Majority Leader McConnell succeeds in passing this open-ended war authorization, the US Constitution will be all but a dead letter.

3 Gitmo 'Suicides' Were Actually Murdered: Former Guard

A former Guantanamo guard, who says he witnessed hunger strike “leaders” being brought to a secret CIA “black site”, is accusing the agency of having staged their suicide to get rid of the “problem”. At the time, the US said the men hanged themselves.

On June 10, 2006, the Department of Defense reported that Saudi Arabians Mani al-Utaybi and Yasser al-Zahrani, and a Yemeni citizen, Ali Abdullah Ahmed, “killed themselves in an apparent suicide pact.”

“Two Saudis and one Yemeni, each located in Camp 1, were found unresponsive and not breathing in their cells by guards,” Joint Task Force-Guantanamo said at that time, adding that “all lifesaving measures had been exhausted.”

Dr. Hatim Kanaaneh Remembers the Nakba

Hatim Kanaaneh, M.D., spoke at Revolution Books in Moiliili last evening as part of his winter book tour. He is an Arab citizen of Israel and an author. Years ago he attended the University of Hawaii, where he met his wife, then went on to Harvard, where he earned his M.D. He is now retired and keeps busy writing.

His books include A Doctor in Galilee: The Life and Struggle of a Palestinian in Israel and his newestChief Complaint.

YouTube introduction:

Sep 8, 2015

In this video Dr. Kanaaneh recounts what happened to his family, friends and neighboring communities in Galilee during the Nakba or "Day of Catastrophe" when his boyhood home was invaded by the Israeli army. For Palestinians, Nakba is an annual day on which they remember their displacement that culminated with Israel's 1948 declaration of independence.
