This practice of constitutional revision by an unelected committee of nine, always accompanied (as it is today) by extravagant praise of liberty, robs the People of the most important liberty they asserted in the Declaration of Independence and won in the Revolution of 1776: the freedom to govern themselves.
SCOTUS Assoc. Justice Antonin Scalia in same-sex marriage dissenting opinion

Civil disobedience is not our problem. Our problem is civil obedience. Our problem is that people all over the world have obeyed the dictates of the leaders of their government and have gone to war, and millions have been killed because of this obedience.
Israel’s Prime Minister [Benjamin Netanyahu] is well-placed to explain to the U.S. Congress the alleged danger of a nuclear Iran. After all, it was Israel and its allies in Washington who fabricated this issue to begin with.
There are millions of Christians in America’s churches that couldn’t tell you what’s in the Bible to save their lives. They couldn’t quote the Ten Commandments; they couldn’t quote the Golden Rule; they couldn’t name Christ’s apostles; they couldn’t quote five verses of Scripture from memory if their lives depended on it.
In all ages the people of the world, equally with individuals, have accepted words for deeds, for THEY ARE CONTENT WITH A SHOW and rarely pause to note, in the public arena, whether promises are followed by performance.

MIT economist Jonathan Gruber’s factually impoverished testimony on Obamacare [before the House] didn’t get nearly the attention it should have, as congressional Democrats cleverly decided to release a report on CIA torture abuses on the same day.
[Obamacare] was written in a tortured way to make sure that the CBO did not score the mandate as taxes. If CBO scored the mandate as taxes, the bill dies.
Salem al Jamayli, the former head of intelligence for Iraq in the U.S., says that America manipulated its public to get them to accept the Iraq war. This is something that we already know. But it's still shocking even now to be reminded that the American people did absolutely nothing when it soon became abundantly clear that they had been lied to and that we were in a major war because of it with a large number of deaths.
Mr. al Jamayli maintains that the American Jewish lobby and Jews in the Defense Department pushed hard to get the U.S. to attack Iraq, making the American move to war unstoppable despite all the Iraqi government could do.
HPI has checked al Jamayli's statement about Jews in the Defense Department. Donald Rumsfeld, Richard Perle, Paul Wolfowitz and Douglas Feith were in the George W. Bush Department of Defense and all played active, significant roles in pushing the U.S. into the Iraq War — under false pretenses, as we quickly learned. All but Donald Rumsfeld are Jewish.
Al Jamayli states that the Iraqi government gave the U.S. credit for a minimum amount of mental capacity, never expecting that we didn't even have that, at least from their point of view. The result was that once the Hussein government fell, Al Qaeda and Iranian influence spread widely across the region. Such stupidity on the part of the U.S. was completely unanticipated by the Iraqis. It's the wars that we promulgated that sparked the economic crisis that we ourselves are going through now, he points out.
Prior to the invasion, the American public was told that because Iraq was one of the top producers of oil in the world, our gas prices should go down as the result of our invasion of Iraq. This was when gas was an average of $1.59 per gallon across the U.S., which was considered high.
Also, the Iraqis were going to be better off than they were under the dictatorship of Saddam Hussein. Our invasion of that country was called "Operation Iraqi Liberation." But over 100,000 Iraqis and 4,486 Americans have died. Around one-third of our returning veterans have experienced severe mental after-effects.
