'U.S. Manipulated Public Opinion before Iraq War'

Salem al Jamayli, the former head of intelligence for Iraq in the U.S., says that America manipulated its public to get them to accept the Iraq war. This is something that we already know. But it's still shocking even now to be reminded that the American people did absolutely nothing when it soon became abundantly clear that they had been lied to and that we were in a major war because of it with a large number of deaths.

Mr. al Jamayli maintains that the American Jewish lobby and Jews in the Defense Department pushed hard to get the U.S. to attack Iraq, making the American move to war unstoppable despite all the Iraqi government could do.

HPI has checked al Jamayli's statement about Jews in the Defense Department. Donald Rumsfeld, Richard Perle, Paul Wolfowitz and Douglas Feith were in the George W. Bush Department of Defense and all played active, significant roles in pushing the U.S. into the Iraq War — under false pretenses, as we quickly learned. All but Donald Rumsfeld are Jewish.

There are those among the Jews themselves who say that the Iraq War was fought for Israel.

Al Jamayli states that the Iraqi government gave the U.S. credit for a minimum amount of mental capacity, never expecting that we didn't even have that, at least from their point of view. The result was that once the Hussein government fell, Al Qaeda and Iranian influence spread widely across the region. Such stupidity on the part of the U.S. was completely unanticipated by the Iraqis. It's the wars that we promulgated that sparked the economic crisis that we ourselves are going through now, he points out.

Prior to the invasion, the American public was told that because Iraq was one of the top producers of oil in the world, our gas prices should go down as the result of our invasion of Iraq. This was when gas was an average of $1.59 per gallon across the U.S., which was considered high.

Also, the Iraqis were going to be better off than they were under the dictatorship of Saddam Hussein. Our invasion of that country was called "Operation Iraqi Liberation." But over 100,000 Iraqis and 4,486 Americans have died. Around one-third of our returning veterans have experienced severe mental after-effects.
