Rep. Hare: 'I Don't Worry about the Constitution'

In a video clip uploaded to YouTube on April 1, 2010, Congressman Phil Hare (D-IL) says, "I don't worry about the Constitution on this [Obamacare], to be honest . . . (inaudible)." Obamacare had just been signed into law by President Obama on March 23.

The video has been viewed 462,207 times.

In the video Hare also says he read the 2,700-page bill three times. His questioners are openly incredulous. Three times 2,700 pages is 8,100 pages, the figure given in the clip. Reading at the rate of one page per minute, that would be 135 hours to read three times. But on Tuesday, March 9, 2010, then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) famously said about the Obamacare measure, "But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what's in it."

Congressman Hare later attempts damage control.

He lost his next election.
