PEARL CITY, HI - Former Hawaii Army National Guard Captain Mike Greco, having recently served at the Defense Intelligence Agency in Washington DC and at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, filed his nomination papers today at the Office of Elections. Prior to his Army service, Greco, a 2004 graduate of the University of Hawaii Manoa, served as a Naval Aircrewman with the VP-4 Skinny Dragons at Marine Corps Base Hawaii. During two mid-Pacific deployments with VP-4, his aircrew conducted maritime security and anti-submarine warfare missions throughout the Pacific Ocean and Persian Gulf. His service included maritime security patrols during Operation Desert Fox. Greco is running for state Senate District 16, a seat currently held by David Ige, the chair of the senate Ways and Means Committee.

“Today in Hawaii we face major social and economic problems. Hawaii consistently ranks among the worst states in the union to start a small business. Families are losing their homes, jobs and businesses and our leadership continues to impose new taxes, fees, regulations and licensing requirements which stifle economic opportunity. Our leadership promotes costly government projects and irresponsible spending which often result in higher taxes and an increased cost of living for Hawaii’s residents. We need bold market-based solutions to fix our economic problems, and leadership who will make the tough decisions to get this economy moving again. This is why I have decided to run for State Senate,” stated Greco.

“As a former military officer, I have taken many oaths to the Constitution and I take these oaths very seriously. As your State Senator, I will uphold and defend the Constitution and protect life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness in the state of Hawaii.”

Mike is currently the treasurer of the Aiea Neighborhood Board and president of Greco Construction Inc., an Aiea-based construction consulting firm. He is married to Dr. Elsi Greco.
